University Courses

Ashford College is committed to delivering high quality Higher Education (HE) programmes which offer students excellent value for money. All of our programmes have a strong vocational edge and have been designed to give our graduates the best possible chance to succeed in increasingly tough job markets. We offer specialised professional qualifications in a flexible range of two-year Higher National Certificates and Diplomas (HNC/Ds), Foundation Degrees, Teaching Diplomas and one-year BA Honours Degree Top-Ups. Some programmes are offered on both a full-time and part-time basis, suiting those who wish to work and study at the same time.

We are proud to be seen as the ‘Local University’ in Ashford, with a diverse range of programmes available at both campuses. These programmes provide natural progression routes from our Further Education (FE) programmes and the opportunity to gain a HE qualification awarded by of one of our four respected partners (see below).

The College has approximately 450 students studying for a HE qualification, making us one of the largest college providers of HE in Kent. We encourage you to come and see for yourself the benefits of studying with us by attending one of our regular information events, details of which can be found here. Why Study for a University Course at Ashford College?

Recognised for quality. The Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA) conducted an assessment of the College’s university level programmes in 2012 and delivered a verdict of confidence in our management of academic standards and the quality of learning opportunities available to students. Here’s some of the feedback we received:

“Students are positive about their learning experiences, saying that class activities are challenging, interesting and informative. There is an emphasis on student-centred learning and developing independent learning.”

“The College has a strong relationship with a range of local employers who contribute to programme development and provide work-based learning and placement opportunities to students.”

You can see the full report here.

Inspiring and effective teaching. Our lecturers have notable industry links and excellent, up-to-date subject knowledge, as well as extensive teaching experience.

Smaller class sizes. This means that you will receive close support from lecturing staff and our dedicated HE support staff.

Nationally recognised qualifications, based locally. You can study for a HE qualification in modern surroundings, at one of our two campuses in Kent. If you successfully complete a programme awarded by one of our partner universities, you will receive a certificate awarded by the university and be eligible to join the university’s graduation ceremony.

Professionally relevant programmes. Our vocationally-focused qualifications give students a competitive edge. In Fine Art, Fashion & Textiles, Graphic Design and Photography, we offer both a two-year Foundation Degree/HND and a one-year BA Honours Degree Top-Up, enabling students to either leave after two years with a full qualification, or study for a further year to achieve a full Honours Degree. In other subject areas, our programmes will qualify students for direct entry to the final year of an Honours Degree at another university.

Lower than average tuition fees. In the 2017/18 academic year, our annual tuition fee for new full-time students will remain at £5,900, compared to the maximum of £9,250 that some universities will be charging.  Plus, as with other higher education providers, all of our programmes qualify for a Government tuition fee loan, which means you do not have to pay your fees up-front.

Professional Studies

As well as University programmes, the College offers a wide range of professional courses that give you the chance to improve both your higher level skills and your career options. These vary in length from a few weeks to a year and are studied on a part-time basis at evenings and weekends, enabling you to work while you study. In many cases, you can take a university programme unit individually, allowing you to enhance your professional development in your chosen field or build up credits towards a full degree level qualification.

Our Partners

Although you will be studying at Ashford College, your qualifications will be awarded by one of our four respected partners, comprising three top-100 universities and an internationally renowned awarding body: Canterbury Christ Church University, the University of Greenwich, the University of Kent and Pearson Edexcel.
